CONSIDERING PIANO LESSONS FOR YOUR CHILD? FIRST THINGS FIRST 2

Welcome, to all first timers on the "every child deserves piano education" campaign, well, we haven't really begun the campaign just yet, we're still on the first things first...

Today, i would talk briefly on the two vital ingredients to look out for in a pianoforte curriculum of choice. I am aware that many tutors, do not make it a matter of emphasis to ensure they research into the best curriculum applicable to their kids before commencing a musical tutorial, well, for such tutors, today's discuss would be some-what helpful.

Piano Performance requires two vital 'graces':

          1. Knowledge (Theory)
          2. Wisdom (Practical Skill)

In other words, every knowledge has got to be applied! thus, there's the place of the acquisition of the skill, and there's the place of knowing what. A number of players are like the Samaritans of John chapter 4, except that, whereas the Samaritans worship they know not what, these players, play they know not what! Now you don't want your child in that category!

However, if you would avoid such recklessness, you must ensure your kids piano tutor doesn't just use a curriculum that is skill driven alone, or knowledge driven alone, ensure that every theory has an application just as there should be the theory behind every applications. Reason why I advocate an applied musical curriculum from research driven musical institutions.

The very first thing I would recommend therefore, would be not just a curriculum, but a curriculum with these two vital graces, that is, the theory (knowledge) and the practical skills (wisdom), and i must have not a 50-50 of these, but a 100% of both at every given level of tutorial. A 100% of both implies that for EVERY THEORY I MUST HAVE AN APPLICATION AND FOR EVERY APPLICATION I MUST HAVE THE THEORY!
