APRIL MUSICALS FOR MUSIKGARTEN AGES
Introducing the Musikgarten April Musicals Program (Ages 4–6+)
Every musical journey needs a strong foundation. At Rehearsal House, the Musikgarten Program provides a carefully structured pathway that guides young learners from early musical awareness into formal instrumental and theoretical study.
As part of April Musicals 2026, the Musikgarten curriculum is delivered as an intensive 12-session musical training experience designed to help children rapidly build essential musical skills while enjoying the excitement of collaborative music making.
This program follows the Pre-Musikgarten stage and prepares pupils for formal graded music studies and international music examinations.
Program Structure and Age Groups
The Musikgarten Program is organized into three progressive stages, each designed to support the developmental needs of young learners.
Musikgarten 1
Recommended Age: 4–5 years
Musikgarten 1 introduces pupils to the structured elements of music learning. Children begin exploring rhythm, pitch recognition, and basic music reading in an engaging and practical way.
Key areas include:
- Ear training and musical listening
- Basic rhythm counting using semibreves and minims
- Introduction to reading notes on the music stave
- Piano fingering development
- Simple melodic repertoire
Rhythm is reinforced through drum pad practice, while the piano serves as the primary instrument for developing musical coordination and finger technique.
Musikgarten 2
Recommended Age: 5–6 years
Musikgarten 2 expands the musical foundations developed in the first stage. Pupils gain greater fluency in reading, rhythm practice, and keyboard familiarity.
The program strengthens:
- Ear training exercises across multiple keys
- Early sight-reading ability
- Piano fingering and coordination
- Musical memory and repertoire development
- Understanding of the keyboard layout
Students begin to demonstrate greater confidence and independence in their musical practice.
Musikgarten 3
Recommended Age: 6+ years
Musikgarten 3 serves as the transition stage into formal music education and introduces students to more advanced musical concepts.
At this stage pupils begin learning the language of music, including:
- Introduction to solfa notation
- Expanded sight-reading skills
- Foundations of music theory
- Structured piano technique development
- Advanced ear-training exercises
Students also begin learning the first family of major scales, including:
- C Major
- G Major
- D Major
- A Major
- E Major
Later expanding to:
- B Major
- F♯ Major
The concepts of major and minor tonalities are introduced, helping pupils understand how different keys shape musical expression.
Instrumental Minors (Introduced from Musikgarten 3)
While piano remains the core instrument for all pupils, students in Musikgarten 3 may also begin exploring additional instrumental pathways known as Instrumental Minors.
Available minors include:
- Recorder
- Violin
- Trumpet
- Vocals
These instruments allow students to broaden their musical experience while continuing to develop strong keyboard foundations.
Preparing for International Music Examinations
From Musikgarten 3, the program begins preparing pupils for internationally recognized music examinations such as:
- The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)
- The International School of Musicians (ISoM)
Students gradually develop the listening skills, music reading ability, and theoretical understanding required for professional music study.
Musical Houses and the Annual Championship League
Every pupil enrolled in the program is assigned to a Musical House and becomes part of the Rehearsal House Annual Musical Championship League.
This exciting inter-house musical competition premieres during the April Musicals Program and encourages pupils to develop:
- Musical discipline
- Performance confidence
- Team collaboration
- Creative expression
Performance Opportunities
Performance is an essential part of musical growth.
At the end of the April Musicals program:
- Musikgarten 1 and 2 pupils participate in Live Room Sessions, where they share their musical progress in a supportive environment.
- Musikgarten 3 pupils present their first Live Room Recitals, marking an important milestone in their musical development.
Practical Learning Environment
Lessons at Rehearsal House are taught practically and instrument-first.
Each pupil works with their own keyboard during lessons, allowing them to immediately apply musical concepts through hands-on learning.
Students also receive a Program Manual (Workbook) that contains the first half of the Level 1 curriculum. This portion of the curriculum is designed to be completed during the April Musicals training period.
Piano as the Core Instrument
Piano remains the major instrument for all pupils in the program. It provides the strongest foundation for understanding melody, harmony, and music theory.
Parents may choose between:
- Major Course Only (Piano)
- Major Course with Instrumental Minor
Tuition differs depending on the selected course structure.
Tuition and Enrollment
Tuition for returning students differs from that of new students, reflecting the continuity of their musical development within the Rehearsal House program.
The April Musicals Musikgarten program is available across all Rehearsal House Training Centers in Benin City.
