Today's Thread: Finding Artistry Sounds.
Thread Prologue:
It is Important to begin by defining Music, particularly going back to the begining— where our word for Music is coming from; the word suggests progressive innovation and more importantly, Rapt Attentiveness (every detail matters)!
One of the Moments in Musical history that quite captures this is the period between the late 1970's and 1982— what some have called the Revival of the Music Industry— The Story of Michael Jackson's Thriller Album. The Period was said to be a time of Economic recession but equally concerning to us, was that The Music Industry was in decline; Record stores reported very low patronage—sales dropped by 50 million units, even the CBS Records (home to Michael Jackson's Label Epic) was said to be plummeting by 50 percent! Now this was not all, of course there is no smoke without fire— Change was Visiting— Radio was transitioning from AM to FM! There was a discontent with SOUNDS— Or let us say, with the Artistry of Sounds! A stagnation in Pop Music—a countering of the meaning of Music— Muse: Abstraction, Thoughtfulness, Creativity — these are the "what defines the Artistry of Sounds..." And it was so to speak— lost in a time when, it would have been most needed... More on this later!
Well, before we proceed, let us mention that this is a Chat Forum, you can participate by leaving comments, either in form of questions or contributions...
So, In the period between 1980 and 1982, before the release of Michael Jackson's Thriller, the Music Industry faced a decline, Record Sales declined by 50 million units; yes, there was economic recession— but was it not for such moments Music was meant? But, not even Music was working out! Pop music had become Stagnant and formulaic; Innovation— The Artistry of Sounds was almost gone, as listeners ears had become fatigued— hearing the same sound-idea over and over... It was disco sounding the same every time— so the listeners ears judged!
Yes, like mentioned, there is no smoke without fire! There were challenges, but again as mentioned; Music is given to Man for a number of reasons— one of which is times of depression! To provide true succor. To truly encourage the discouraged! To lift up the broken! Well Tragically, it seems the Meaning of this has been totally lost out! For what seems to persist is rather an Act of the Artistry of Sounds— Music out together to some how keep the discouraged out of their reality... No true medicine, just suppressants!
ReplyDelete*put: music put together...
DeleteHmmm... Music today, is largely used to suppress reality! Hence there is little emphasis on lyrics, but there is a thingy that somewhat is used as an excuse: how do you break into the market/industry, without just "serving suppressants?"
DeleteThis is a very much needed Musical Forum! Good job, mod!
